Surprise! Meet Your New Shampoo Bar
by Sarah Thomas
“I wanted to share this with you. Yesterday I had an appointment with my hairdresser. She was amazed at how wonderful my hair looked. I’m going to continue using the cleansing bar as my shampoo!” Dianne
Q: What looks and feels like a bar of soap, but acts like a gloriously decadent multitasking superhero?
A: Lume’s Acidified Cleansing Bar - facial cleanser, body cleanser, shaving cream, and shampoo bar!
Although it does look like soap, it’s not soap. Traditional soap is the result of a chemical reaction between sodium salts and oil or fat, called saponification. Soap is great for washing away dirt and grime, but it generally has a high pH and can be very drying for skin.
Soap also does not control odor. Believe it or not, that high pH actually accelerates odor when it meets up with bacteria on our skin.
Lume’s Acidified Cleansing Bar makes a fantastic cleanser because it is not a soap. There are many reasons the Acidified Cleansing Bar is superior to soap:
- pH optimized for skin - meaning it is in the right range to support healthy skin and gentle enough to use for face and body
- It’s the ultimate odor eliminator! The Acidified Cleansing Bar is clinically proven to remove odor better than traditional soap and control odor for 24 hours
- Clinically proven to brighten skin, visually even skin tone, and decrease the appearance of hyperpigmentation
- Formulated without harsh ingredients like parabens, phthalates, or sulfates. Sulfates - including sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) - can irritate and dry skin.
But our Acidified Cleansing Bar has another trick up its sudsy sleeve, because it makes a terrific shampoo bar, and here are some reasons why:
Optimized pH
Like all of our Acidified products, our Cleansing Bar is pH optimized since it has the same natural range as hair and scalp. Using shampoo with an optimal pH level is important because it affects the hair's structure and overall health. When hair's pH is balanced, the cuticle layer is flat, which keeps the hair shaft smooth and prevents moisture loss. This results in soft, shiny, and manageable hair.
“I love the Acidified Cleansing Bar as shampoo and have completely converted away from traditional shampoo. I think it keeps my color from fading. I also think my hair has more volume and it gets it very clean.” Katie
Plastic Free
The Acidified Cleansing Bar arrives to you in a simple, recyclable paper box, so it is truly an environmentally friendly product. Bonus: You can eliminate another clunky plastic bottle from your shower so you cut down on clutter.
Travels Like A Champ
Leave your shampoo, body wash, and shaving cream at home because this hefty 5-ounce bar can be tucked into any carry-on bag! You won’t have to worry about TSA ounce limits or the messiness of leaky bottles.
“I like it as an ‘all in one’ waterless shower option, especially for travel - for hair, body, and shaving.” Rebecca
Stellar Ingredients
The Acidified Cleansing Bar is sulfate free which means it is gentle on hair and skin. It also helps preserve hair color. Sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate are both commonly used in soap and shampoos to create lather and help remove dirt and oil. Lume uses sodium cocoyl isethionate derived from coconut as a cleansing and clarifying agent, which is gentle and moisturizing for skin and hair. Sulfate free also means it won’t strip hair color.
“Many of the benefits come from it being sulfate free. It’s so good for color treated hair and I always follow up with a conditioner regardless of how I cleanse my hair. My daughter Julia says her hair is less greasy on day 2-3 after a wash.” Shannon
4 in 1 Multi Tasker
1 bar can replace your facial cleanser, soap or body wash, shaving cream, and shampoo! I don’t know about you, but my shower caddy only holds so many things and I ’m always looking to save space. The idea of simplifying is very appealing.
Waterless
Liquid shampoos can contain up to 80% water, which means you’re paying for a lot of unnecessary plastic and shipping costs. When you use the Acidified Cleansing Bar instead of a liquid shampoo, the weight is drastically reduced, resulting in a smaller carbon footprint.
“I have thin hair but it gives it a good amount of volume and cleans it without stripping away shine. I also have scalp psoriasis and it has been really great for it! I haven’t had a flare up since using it as my shampoo.” Kait

“I tend not to shampoo frequently to try to prolong my color and find the Acidified Cleansing Bar keeps my scalp feeling really fresh without feeling particularly stripping or causing atypical dye run-off. I do follow up with conditioner as well as oil up my ends.” Amy
